As we head into March of our 2019-2020 school year, I wanted to make sure our community was aware of some excellent upcoming opportunities for family engagement. We build a stronger community for our students when we connect, listen and learn from one another. Stronger home/school partnerships contribute to a caring culture and positively impact student success and academic excellence. Please consider participating in these upcoming engagement opportunities.

On Tuesday, March 10, at 7:00 pm, we will be hosting our second Tech Talk Tuesday for families. Let's talk Apps! What are the best parental control apps out there for monitoring your child’s screen time or creating technology use expectations for your family? Come to the next Tech Talk Tuesday for parents only. We will have "parent experts" there to talk about which apps they use to monitor their children and the best features each app offers. Do you have an app that you love and want to share? Contact Sheena Arting at @email and we'll get you signed up as a "parent expert." No experience necessary other than your personal experience!

On Thursday, March 12, at 7:00 pm, the Stratford Landing administration team will be hosting “The State of Stratford Landing”. We will be presenting news and information about our school and the many successes of our students and teachers this year. We will also share with the community some of our current focuses on overall improvement as well as provide a preview into some of next school year’s focuses and priorities. We will also allow time for families to provide feedback around considerations for the future of Stratford Landing Elementary School. Onward! This meeting will be streamed live on the SLES PTA facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/stratfordlandingpta/?ref=share

On Thursday, March 19, at 6:00 pm, our PTA Inclusion and Advocacy group will be hosting a twice-exceptional (2e) workshop for families. Twice-exceptional (2e) learners are highly intelligent and also have a significant learning challenge or disability. Ms. Beth Baldwin, from the FCPS Advanced Academic Programs Office, and Dawn Azennar, from the FCPS Office of Special Education Instruction, will be sharing the new FCPS 2e Parent Handbook with our community. This is a great opportunity to learn about the new resources developed by FCPS and gain insight and guidance on meeting the complex needs of 2e students.

Also, on Thursday, March 19, we will host a Garden Meet Up after school. Come and meet our Outdoor Learning Teacher, Mrs. Charlton and learn about all the great happenings in our Discovery Garden. Our garden and outdoor learning program is always looking for eager volunteers (no gardening experience necessary) and this is a great way to connect and find out how you can stay involved with this unique learning program at Stratford Landing.

Looking forward to engaging and collaborating with our community. Please, come join us and be a part of the conversation.
