Hello, this is Ms. Charlton, your Garden and Outdoor Learning teacher, and I’ll be giving weekly garden updates so check back to see what’s happening in the garden and how you can get involved!  

It may be winter, but the garden is still bustling! Thanks to generous funding from the PTA, the garden has been able to start purchasing new equipment including: a second hydroponic system, wood for new garden beds, an outdoor sink station, and a professional grade salad spinner to wash our greens. The PTA is also paying for FCPS to build a cement base for our greenhouse! Weather permitting, the greenhouse base will be installed next week!  

This week we finished building six new 8’ x 4’ wood garden beds! Once the weather cooperates, we will fill them with soil, and they will be ready for spring planting. We also set up the outdoor sink so that students can wash their hands after gardening.  

Tools have been cleaned and organized in anticipation of students returning, seats are spaced for COVID safety, and the garden is anxiously awaiting its first students!
