School Innovation & Improvement Plan (SIIP) & ESSER III Plan

Background: The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) is a federal grant which requires that spending be used in specific areas.  Part of the Fairfax County Public Schools spending plan identifies funding to be used for Unfinished Learning and Student Academic and Social, Emotional, Mental Health (Wellness) Needs.  Schools have been given funding allocations to support the academic and wellness needs of students.  Schools are required to create plans in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Wellness highlighting the strategies they will use to support these areas using their ESSER III funding.  These strategies are shown below.

ESSER III English Language Arts Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts.

Strategy 1 Professional Development for teachers to improve reading and writing workshop and small group instruction (tier 1 instruction). 

Strategy 2 Our Multi-tiered systems of support team (MTSS) will work with Grade Level Collaborative Teams (CT) to identify and implement tier 2 instruction or evidenced based programs (small group) targeting specific literacy skills (comprehension, decoding, writing crafts, phonics)

Strategy 3 Our Multi-tiered systems of support team (MTSS) will work with Grade Level Collaborative Teams (CT) to identify and implement tier 3 instruction or evidence based programs(small group) targeting specific literacy skills (comprehension, decoding, writing crafts, phonics)

ESSER III Mathematics Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics.

Strategy 1 Professional development for teachers to improve math workshop and small group instruction (tier 1 instruction .

Strategy 2 Our Multi-tiered systems of support team (MTSS) will work with Grade Level Collaborative Teams (CT) to identify and implement tier 2 instruction or evidenced based programs (small group) targeting specific numeracy skills. 

Strategy 3 Our Multi-tiered systems of support team (MTSS) will work with Grade Level Collaborative Teams (CT) to identify and implement tier 3 instruction or evidenced based programs (small group) targeting specific numeracy skills. 

 

ESSER III Wellness Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment.

Strategy 1  SLES clinical team and ESSER/SEL team will monitor BOY and MOY SEL screener data, assist in planning and implementing Tier 1 interventions to support students social/emotional needs and improve relationship skills.

Strategy 2 SLES will implement Tier 2 SEL interventions for students using a variety of data points. 

Strategy 3 Identify and implement SEL / Equity resources for SLES staff. For example, Mind Up curriculum. 

Background: All Fairfax County schools are also required to complete an access and opportunity goal as part of their School Innovation and Improvement Plan (SIIP) and can also capture additional goals.  These are shown below.

Access & Opportunity End of Year SMARTR Outcome

Goal: By June 2022, Stratford Landing will progress at least one level as measured by the Advanced Academics Young Scholars Implementation Rubric (embed YS into academic culture, further implementation of YS model)  

Strategy 1 All grade level Collaborative Teams (CTs) will engage in identification of Young Scholars by working directly with the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART) and plan and implement small group instruction and differentiation for Young Scholars.

Strategy 2 Include general education young scholars in advanced mathematics opportunities in grade 3-6 and plan for regular use of AAP curriculum and resources throughout grade level. Provide opportunities for classroom teacher to observe students during critical and creative thinking lesson led by AART. 

Strategy 3 Purchase Stratford Landing FCPS Young Scholars Academy Course for staff participation and AAP endorsement. 

Strategy 4 Host Young Scholar Nights monthly to engage students and families in problem solving and engineering games, activities and challenges. 

OTHER End of Year SMARTR Outcome

Goal: By June 2022, 100% of Stratford Landing Elementary students will show growth in writing, specifically in the areas of “Meaning and Elaboration” and “Spelling” as evidenced by their performance on Writing Assessments given three times a year and scored using the FCPS Grade Level Writing Rubrics.

Strategy 1 Implement word study curriculum at all grade levels using the FCPS planning and pacing guide. 

Strategy 2 Implement with fidelity the use of mentor texts to develop writing craft and student developed anchor charts to create a community of writers. 

Strategy 3 Create safe, collaborative learning environments where students feel comfortable collaborating, peer editing and celebrating their writing.
