Strings 

• At Stratford Landing Elementary, students in grades four through six may receive weekly instruction on string instruments (violin, viola, cello, or double bass). Strings classes meet once per week during the school day and are free of charge. In order for your child to participate in Strings, you need to provide an instrument. Local music stores offer trial-purchase and /or rental plans for these instruments. Fairfax County provides instruments at a reduced fee for students receiving free or reduced lunch. Method books will be provided free through FCPS. It generally takes one full school year for students to feel accomplished on a string instrument. For this reason, children enrolling in Strings are expected to remain in the program for the entire school year. Strings instruction in FCPS continues through Middle and High School and opens up a world of friendship, fun, and musical excellence for your child. 

Band

• At Stratford Landing Elementary, students in grades five and six may receive weekly instruction on string instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, percussion, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba). Band classes meet once per week during the school day and are free of charge. In order for your child to participate in Band, you need to provide an instrument. Local music stores offer trial-purchase and /or rental plans for these instruments. Fairfax County provides instruments at a reduced fee for students receiving free or reduced lunch. Method books will be provided free through FCPS. Band instruction in FCPS continues through Middle and High School.  

Chorus

• Chorus is usually open to all fifth and sixth-grade students. Ensembles at Stratford require a year-long commitment. Students joining Chorus in September are expected to remain in the group for the rest of the school year. Chorus rehearsals will be held during the school day. Rehearsal attendance is mandatory. Students will leave their homeroom classes to attend Chorus. Students are responsible for making up any class work they may miss as a result of attending rehearsal. Chorus is open to sixth grade only at this time.
