Kindergarten Orientation Presentation
Welcome to our Kindergarten Orientation for the 2021-2022 school year! Below you will find a review of the information that was shared and discussed at the Kindergarten orientation on August 10. You will also be able to get a good overview of the Kindergarten program.
Responsive Classroom Morning Meeting
Morning meeting occurs every day and involves the following aspects:
- Encourages feelings of trust, belonging, and fun!
- Each morning, students and teachers gather together for
- Greeting: Everyone greets one other by name.
- Sharing: Everyone shares information about their lives
- Group Activity: Everyone participates in a brief, lively activity
Morning Message: Students read and interact with a short message

There are essential standards identified for instructions for Kindergartners. These foundational skills are:

Why Read 20 Minutes at Home?
Research shows that students who read 20 minutes a day score higher, in the 90th percentile, on standardized tests.
Specials
All Kindergarten students participate in the following specials each week:
- PE
- Art
- Music
- Library
- Guidance
Lunch & Snack
All Kindergarten students have 30 minutes for lunch. Hot lunch is available each day in the cafeteria. Please pack a snack and a water bottle every day.
Computers & Schoology
All Kindergarten students will be issued a school laptop computer. This computer will be used at school.
Schoology will be a new, online communication tool to connect parents & teachers. This platform will allow parents to see student progress & assignments as well.
Transportation Information
Call 703-446-2150 for information on riding the school bus. All kindergarten students must be met at the bus stop by an adult.
School Aged Child Care (SACC) Information
Call 703-449-8989 for registration and additional information. More information can also be found by visiting www.fairfaxcounty.gov/ofc.
Health Information & Requirements
Health forms are available on the school website. Please contact the school health attendant about any medications or inhalers that need to be kept at school. All students and staff will wear a mask indoors and outside.
Kinder School Supply List
The Kinder school supply list was provided at the orientation as a handout. It can also be found on the school website. Please try to drop off supplies at the school office before the first day of school or send with your child on the first day of school. Please place in a bag with your child’s name & grade on it.
Skills to Practice Independence
- Pack own backpack
- Put on jacket
- Button/zip/snap coats and pants
- Put on own shoes (tie or velcro)
- Eat and open foods on own (juice boxes)
- Wash hands
